Your first encounter with the Cleddau  River is when you exit the Homer Tunnel  high above  Milford Sound as you drive into arguably one of the most beautiful places on this earth. Your encounter with the Cleddau River may be in the form of rain as you exit the tunnel on the western side of the Homer Saddle or it could be in the form of snow melt washing down the near sheer walls of the most upper reaches of this magnificent  fiord.
This grand entrance is just a taste of this World Heritage National Park and the Cleddau River is a dominant part of this fiord.
Getting to Milford and doing one of the water born activities can create a big day and there is nowhere better to stop and take this place than in one of the new Milford Lodges river side chalets. Smell the ancient rain forests and watch the Cleddau River, its energy forever changing  as it sweeps past your balcony or window.
This has been made possible by the presence of the Milford Sound Lodge which has some of the best land based accommodation in Milford.
A lot of people are disappointed having found when they get to Milford they do not have enough time.  This website tries to cover that aspect as does the Milford Lodges website.

New Riverside Chalets

Experience the spectacular scenery of Fiordland National Park from the luxury of our new in 2008 modern riverside studio chalets. Sit back in the comfortable lounge and watch the sparkling waters of Cleddau River tumble by outside your window. Lie in the Super King Size Bed and gaze in awe at the towering peaks rising up above the lush temperate rainforest.
Soak away the aches and pains of a day’s Tramping or Sea Kayaking in the large bath. Other features include SKY TV with LCD TV/DVD and a modern kitchenette. Treat yourself to a bit of luxury away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist towns.

Backpacker Style Rooms

We have double and twin rooms for those travelers who prefer a little more privacy. For the more adventurous we have a range of dorm style bunk rooms which accommodate between 4 and 10 people. These rooms are all centrally heated and share bathroom facilities.
Campervan & Tent Sites
We have a range of powered and unpowered sites for campervans.  Some sites back on to the spectacular Cleddau River with views up and down the valley. Others are nestled between the trees in the temperate rainforest, while others offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
